so, luckily i ended up at a university with an innovative faculty member. i'm currently working in a lab where i can work on whatever studies i want, and at the moment, i'm being encouraged to do one of my own come fall.
i've got a general idea of what i want to do. i'm still interested in the idea of homosexuality and hostility (re: the survey i posted a couple of weeks back), but i'm also really into suicidality and self-injury. i helped to develop a highly cohesive measure on self-injury this past spring and i would kill to use it. i found a thesis dissertation on suicidal behavior across sexual orientation and i think doing something like that would really kind of pull all of my interests together. i DO, however, want to do something fairly clinical. a friend mentioned maybe putting the surveys online and also doing one-on-one interviews, but i'm still pretty unclear. naturally, i thought to come to you guys.
given that, does anyone have any suggestions on a possible study?

PS. I did have an idea of having homosexual men and straight men fill out a survey looking for agression. Homosexuality has been hinted at in a study to being linked to higher levels of testosterone during fetal development so it would be interesting to me, but that is just me thinking outloud.

i'm going to take my idea to next week's meeting and kick it around with the grad students to see what they think. hopefully they'll like it.

I don't know about your school, but I know in Canada anyway, a lot of profs will veto clinical studies that will result in any form of diagnostic conclusion at the undergrad level, because if you discover an illness etc, you are legally liable (and therefore so is the sponsor) to provide care for said disorder. It was the reason that during my undergrad thesis concerning eating disorders, I was not allowed to administer the complete EAT test - thus I couldn't "diagnose" anybody fully. Just a thought to keep in mind, especially if you want to bring in suicidality and self-injury.
